It is the only bay in Hawaii with a barrier reef. Exposed across its length to the prevailing trade winds, this, in conjunction with the barrier reef and the relatively warm waters combine to make a smooth clear waterway ideal for windsurfing, snorkeling, kayaking, sailing and other ocean related activities. The bay is the home of the State Marine Research facilities. Explore this magnificent bay where millions of fish, turtles, rays, and a incredible variety of maine life abound. Swimming has been compared to swimming in an aquarium.
